Reporters Without Borders (RSF) implements, with its local partners and network of experts, training programmes designed to strengthen the skills, safety, and resilience of journalists working in increasingly complex and dangerous environments around the world. RSF’s training offer focuses on equipping media professionals with the tools they need to report safely, independently, and ethically.
Combining core modules in physical safety, digital safety, psychological safety, and legal preparedness, RSF offers tailored training modules adapted to the specific challenges faced in the field — whether covering violent protests, armed conflicts, elections, or environmental issues. From basic first aid to advanced physical safety training, these modules help participants to identify dangerous situations and take the necessary measures to ensure their safety and that of their colleagues. Digital security training modules improve journalists’ abilities to protect their communication, data and sources, as well as resist online harassment. Through psychological and psychosocial safety training, journalists are able to identify and face psychosocial risks for themselves and their colleagues and to provide psychological first aid in their day-to-day work. Legal modules strengthen understanding of journalists’ rights in the face of arrest, detention, or harassment.
Specialised training modules cover mobile journalism (MOJO), open-source intelligence (OSINT), trauma-informed reporting, and conflict-sensitive reporting. Each training is designed to reflect the realities on the ground and the specific needs of journalists and media workers, with the possibility to focus on topics such as election reporting, gender-based safety, or the particular risks faced by fixers in conflict zones.
