Reporting on War: Lebanese Journalists Speak Out on Mental Health

Covering conflict takes a severe toll on the mind. In a new video produced by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) through the Beirut Press Freedom Center four journalists reporting on the war since 2023 break the silence on trauma, stress, and the vital importance of psychological support in journalism.

Covering wars, violence, and traumatic events can deeply affect a journalist’s mental health. To address this critical issue, four journalists based in Lebanon who have been covering the war since 2023 are raising their voices to encourage greater openness around mental health within the media community.

This video explores the psychological challenges frontline reporters face—including chronic stress, vicarious trauma, and PTSD—while highlighting the necessity of recognizing these impacts and seeking help. It aims to foster greater awareness around self-care and peer support, emphasizing that looking after your psychological well-being is an essential part of staying safe in the field.
