Reporters Without Borders (RSF) offers a range of fellowship opportunities for journalists living in places with restricted press freedom or who are under threats, notably through its German section based in Berlin.
By giving the selected candidates an opportunity to train their skills while taking some time out from stressful working conditions, these fellowships aim at supporting journalists against harassment and persecution and enabling them to continue their journalistic work in their home countries.
Some RSF fellowships focus on specific themes—for instance, the RSF Digital Freedom & Safety Fellowship is especially designed for journalists who have faced digital threats or surveillance in the past. Other fellowships support cross-border reporting projects and collaborations.
The fellowships can also take the form of scholarships, such as the ones offered by the RSF Spanish section, to allow journalists to expand their competences for a duration between a semester and an academic year.
The selected candidates benefit from comprehensive support, which can include coverage of visa and travel costs, accommodation, insurance, psychological support, training opportunities, and project-related expenses.
